What Holidays Do You Celebrate?

No to long ago (LOL..4th of July was just this week) I mentioned in a post that I hoped everyone had a happy and safe 4th of July. I received a comment that got me thinking.

Ross Hetherington
commented on that post after I Left one about his cute chickens. He said “4th July means nothing really to me. Living in the UK but I hope you had a good day.” Thanks Ross, I most certainly did!!

So now I am curious, What holidays do you celebrate in your country that we don’t here in the United States? Tell me about a little about them and what they mean to you. If you live in the United States that is ok too. We have many different cultures here and each one has it's own unique celebrations.

"Z's" First Day

As I mentioned in my other post ,Friday was Z's first day at counseling. He got up at 7 a.m with no problems, had breakfast and helped me make his lunch. He goes from 9-1 and with the way he eats I had to make sure he was not going to be hungry or he will completely shut down. We did all this with absolutely no complaining! I was sure he was going to be against going there and I thought he was going to let me know that. I must say, I was very proud of him.

They told me that he would be able to get transportation there, so I waited with him until the van got there. More so because I wanted to meet the driver. Well, the van showed up kinda late, actually 8:50 am. 10 minutes before he needed to be there. I was just getting ready to bring him myself when I saw the van down the street. I talked to the driver for a couple of minutes and then they were off!

All morning all I could think about was, what was "Z" thinking of all this. How was he dealing with it all. About 1:30 pm he called me from home and sounded to be in really great spirits. I asked how his day went, he said "Good, we made collages and played Scattagories and he also met with a psychiatrist", who tossed a football around with him while they talked in his office.

I must say that there was something different in his voice. It was like a little boys voice. A very sweet, tender voice with a little bit of innocence. Almost like relief, relief that maybe there is someone who can help him sort through all the problems he has. I just hope the positive attitude keeps up. I know there will be good and bad days, I just hope more good than bad.

Last night he came home and was getting ready to take his meds and go to bed. He was counting juice boxes if the fridge and he says " Well, this is the last one for the weekend. I need to save the rest for school, I mean group." I think I saw a little sparkle in his eye. I will buy more of course........

Are You Schmoozin?

Most of all..Thanks Adrian. He has honored me with the Schmooze award. Thanks so much!!

As it goes, schmoozing is the natural ability “to converse casually, especially in order to gain an advantage or make a social connection.” Good schmoozers effortlessly weave their way in and out of the blogosphere, leaving friendly trails and smiles, happily making new friends along the way. They don’t limit their visits to only the rich and successful, but spend some time to say hello to new blogs as well. They are the ones who engage others in meaningful conversations, refusing to let it end at a mere hello - all the while fostering a sense of closeness and friendship. So how in the world I got this award I will never know LOL but I've thought of five great people who have made me welcome and schmoozed their way into my blog and life that I'd like to give this most prestigious Power of Schmooze Award!

So please clap your hands for these 5 new Schmooze Award recipients, that is if they choose to accept the award of course!

Since the morning coffee has not done it's job yet, I will keep this short and sweet. Each one of these blogs has given me a either good laugh or a thought to ponder. Good job all..Keep up the Schmoozin

Honoring Heroes

WOW..I just read a post that gave me goose bumps all over my body. It was posted by Ryan Evans at A [sometimes] Logical View of the Illogical

The post is about a Navy SEAL who died on a mountain side fighting for his fellow SEAL teammates and a statue that was erected in his honor. Please check out this post as I could not do it justice trying to do a recap - To hell with political correctness - It's time to honor a fallen hero

As I read it I had goose bumps and still do. I have to agree with the fact that there are alot of "wussy" parents. Too much in this world is sugar coated and children should know, they should know who fought for them. This man gave his life for so many others and there is nothing that could be more of an honor than a statue. The statue tells a story, a story so many of us will never know, gun included. To me the gun is significant. That is how I look at it, he didn't fight sitting or standing there doing absolutely nothing. He died fighting, fighting with his gun. He is a Hero!

IMHO, there should be more statues like this and certainly more recognition than what many of these soldiers get. Maybe some day I will get to Littleton, Colorado and my son can “meet” one of the 1000’s of men and woman who fought for him.

I have never been in the Armed Forces. I did date a man for several years who served in Desert Storm. I have to agree that most do not know what happens. I do not even know the full extent of what happened. All I know is, he came home a different person then when he left. I still talk to him, even 13 years after our relationship has ended and I still to this day have no idea what it was like.

We should all give thanks to Danny Dietz and all the other service men and women who are fighting for our future and freedom. Thanks to those who fought for us in the past as well. If it was not for these brave men and women, what kind of freedom would we have today.

God Bless the Dietz family..Your son was a brave man...

What Will Your Kids Be When They Grow Up?

I have often wondered that about "Z". I actually worry about what and where he will be. What I mean by that is, the ADHD and auditory hallucination are both managable with medication. What about the rest of it? The oppositional defiance disorder, the lying and he has done some stealing. There are some days I just want to scream. But worst of all I am afraid for his future.

Yesterday we went to an out patient treatment center for intake into a intensive counseling program. He will start going 5 days a week 3 to 4 hours a day. If his clinician feels he he working with the program, it will be cut back to 3 days a week. He starts today! I have to say he was very open minded about going, he was not resistant to being there and even gave a list of things that he would like to work on. I thing being positive is the first step to being successful.

Family history is very limited, as both his father and I are adopted. I have a brother who is my biological brother. He had severe issues growing up. So bad infact he was taken out of the home when I was 11 and never came back. My parents tried really hard to help him achieve his goal of returning home, he just never had the drive for himself.

My biological father had issues of his own. Much that I don't know about and maybe don't want to. They say hi are from the cored being around his neck during child birth blocking oxygen to his brain. I am not so sure of that, seeing as my brother and even my own son seem to have the same issues as him.

I spoke with "Z's" grandfather last night about "Z's" dad. I have not spoken with him in over 3 years. Papa said that his father had ADHD and ODD. Now this is were the fear comes in.

As an adult my brother has pretty much got himself together. He has a good job and 3 kids. He was married but his wife had her own demons that took over her life. He has all 3 of the kids, goes to work and is a productive member of society.

"Z's" dad is far from that. He has been in jail for domestic violence, drinking and driving and least of the issues, non payment of child support. He abuses his wife, he can't hold a job, has attempted suicide and just an over all bundle of issues. I am just happy most of that started after we were done.

So the long and short of it, I just want my son to be the best he can be and I will do what it takes to help him achieve his highest potential.
