"Z's" First Day

As I mentioned in my other post ,Friday was Z's first day at counseling. He got up at 7 a.m with no problems, had breakfast and helped me make his lunch. He goes from 9-1 and with the way he eats I had to make sure he was not going to be hungry or he will completely shut down. We did all this with absolutely no complaining! I was sure he was going to be against going there and I thought he was going to let me know that. I must say, I was very proud of him.

They told me that he would be able to get transportation there, so I waited with him until the van got there. More so because I wanted to meet the driver. Well, the van showed up kinda late, actually 8:50 am. 10 minutes before he needed to be there. I was just getting ready to bring him myself when I saw the van down the street. I talked to the driver for a couple of minutes and then they were off!

All morning all I could think about was, what was "Z" thinking of all this. How was he dealing with it all. About 1:30 pm he called me from home and sounded to be in really great spirits. I asked how his day went, he said "Good, we made collages and played Scattagories and he also met with a psychiatrist", who tossed a football around with him while they talked in his office.

I must say that there was something different in his voice. It was like a little boys voice. A very sweet, tender voice with a little bit of innocence. Almost like relief, relief that maybe there is someone who can help him sort through all the problems he has. I just hope the positive attitude keeps up. I know there will be good and bad days, I just hope more good than bad.

Last night he came home and was getting ready to take his meds and go to bed. He was counting juice boxes if the fridge and he says " Well, this is the last one for the weekend. I need to save the rest for school, I mean group." I think I saw a little sparkle in his eye. I will buy more of course........
