Well the Presidential Election is over and we now have a new President in 2009. I hope this change will be a good thing for the people of the United States. I don't know much about politics and never claimed to there for this post will not be politically themed..The point of this post is more in frustration than anything else.
The media has made Barack Obamas election a part of history and I have to agree with that but only 50% of me feels that way. As our new President to be is only 50% black. The campaign was based on being the first African American man being President. They used it and used it well BUT as far as I am concerned he should have embraced ALL of his roots, black and white. I mean, how do you forget who you are, how can you just right off your white roots. I am sure that I am not the only person that feels this way. How many of those new voters only voted because he was a "black man"? A whole lot I imagine...
With that said, I must say that I hope he does bring change. Granted it won't happen over night and it will take a lot of hard work but somethings do need to be changed in this messed up country of ours. I wish him good luck as our new President.
Now it is time for me to drive my tired ass back to work and go shopping. They are letting me get some new office furniture ! How exciting...umm...not really but I can at least fake it!
actually his campaign wasn't based on on the premise of being the first african american president. he ran as what he called a people's president. the media and public made his campaign about his ethnicity by always noting his color and the historic moment it would be if he were elected. which is the same as with palin being female. they didn't run that campaign based on the idea of a female VP. it's something the media and public focused on.
ReplyDeletei think a lot of first time voters voted this time because they actually felt like for the first time it mattered to them and his campaign was something they could hope and believe in. and sure, i bet there are some who voted soley on his color, but i bet they are few and far between. your statement "How many of those new voters only voted because he was a "black man"? A whole lot I imagine..." leads me to believe that you take issue with his race. how many women do you think voted for mccain simply because his vp pick was a woman? if mccain had won would you be making such a statement regarding that?
