WOW..I just read a post that gave me goose bumps all over my body. It was posted by Ryan Evans at A [sometimes] Logical View of the Illogical
The post is about a Navy SEAL who died on a mountain side fighting for his fellow SEAL teammates and a statue that was erected in his honor. Please check out this post as I could not do it justice trying to do a recap - To hell with political correctness - It's time to honor a fallen hero
As I read it I had goose bumps and still do. I have to agree with the fact that there are alot of "wussy" parents. Too much in this world is sugar coated and children should know, they should know who fought for them. This man gave his life for so many others and there is nothing that could be more of an honor than a statue. The statue tells a story, a story so many of us will never know, gun included. To me the gun is significant. That is how I look at it, he didn't fight sitting or standing there doing absolutely nothing. He died fighting, fighting with his gun. He is a Hero!
IMHO, there should be more statues like this and certainly more recognition than what many of these soldiers get. Maybe some day I will get to Littleton, Colorado and my son can “meet” one of the 1000’s of men and woman who fought for him.
I have never been in the Armed Forces. I did date a man for several years who served in Desert Storm. I have to agree that most do not know what happens. I do not even know the full extent of what happened. All I know is, he came home a different person then when he left. I still talk to him, even 13 years after our relationship has ended and I still to this day have no idea what it was like.
We should all give thanks to Danny Dietz and all the other service men and women who are fighting for our future and freedom. Thanks to those who fought for us in the past as well. If it was not for these brave men and women, what kind of freedom would we have today.
God Bless the Dietz family..Your son was a brave man...
Hi, thanks for the kind words and for carrying the story forward. More people need to be aware of the heroes that gave so much for the country and to understand what sacrifice means.
ReplyDeleteYou are very right though. For those of us who have been through a war while in the armed forces, it's very hard to ever portray to people what things were like and what really went on. As much as I have tried over the years, I still can't quite put it to words.
Thanks again!
