So I have made the leap, the leap of looking for a new job!. I worked a 1/2 a day yesterday and went on a job interview. It was scary at first, seeing as it has been years since I been on my last interview but for the most part, with the exception of a couple of blunders, it went very well. I was told that I would be called for a second interview, more of a computer skills test but I was so far the most qualified person for the job. The only issue is, it pays less money! But money isn't everything, right? How much less I am not sure, I will have to wait and see.
As for my blunder, well I don't think it hurt me to much. When the gentleman realized that I may not know what they did he was a little embarrassed and he ask if the human resources lady had told me. I replied" No she didn't BUT I do know what your company makes, I checked out your website." Knowing I had earned some brownie points there by the way he smiled, I said " This company makes orthodontic (here is were I lose my thought), orthodontic, umm (now I am stuck without a word, why I don't know and I blurt out) orthodontic STUFF." Needless to say, I wanted to die. I think he knew by the look on my face that it just poured out of my mouth. He smiled with a little chuckle and said" Well the orthodontic STUFF you are referring to is wire, we are in the process of trying to get approved for brackets as well."
So all in all it went good, I hope the money isn't to much less than what I make now. But then again, medical isn't a field I have ever worked in and the job is quality/procurement and I have never worked in procurement either. He told me straight out the only way to get more money is to take on more responsibilities other than that, you get your yearly review and increase. Right now I am not going to worry about it because the benefit package will have a lot to do with my decision as well.
