My Son And His Allowance, Well The Lack Of It

I try to give my 12 year old son an allowance but he never seems to want to do his chores. LOL..what kid wants chores? I always find myself reminding him that he always wants to buy things and without money, it is pretty hard thing to do, but at the same time I want him to save his money for something special that he wants.

There are a couple of options out there. I could open him a savings account. Never to early to learn about banking. There is also this prepaid Visa card called PAYjr Visa Buxx card which is available for children 13 year old and up. This card allows your load your child's allowance onto a prepaid Visa. Chores are kept track of by using the Chore and Allowance Management System. This system is available to children 12 and under as well. Will this be the answer to my dilemma? I don't really know, but I think I am willing to give it a shot.

  1. My father would love if we had that when I was young. He gave me a creditcard (no limit) when I was 14 and more than 10 years has passed and he still regrets his decision. hahahah

  2. I think you should give it a shot, sounds like a mighty fine idea. We don't have such stuff here. My 12 year old doesn't know how to use money and he doesn't want to take money to school. The wife has to pack his lunch and stuff and he's pretty pleased with just that. I'd still have to get him to learn to use money eventually ...

Nick - Sometimes I wish my son didn't know about money!! I think I will try it. He always wants so many things but has issues with earning the money. We'll see!!
